Use Case 6: MSP Use Case

#1

  • OpsGenie has ready to use integrations with hundreds of monitoring systems. When any problem is noticed by these monitoring systems, OpsGenie alerts can be created to notify the right people.

  • As MSPs, you can use the OpsGenie to OpsGenie integration to support various use cases, so the integration is configurable to support these different behaviours.

  • You can synchronize your alerts between two OpsGenie accounts and take actions according to your configuration.

    1. You can fully synchronize alerts between main account and sub-account so that alert actions are reflected directly among these accounts.

    2. You can execute alert actions only in sub-accounts if you want to take action only in sub-accounts.

    3. You can execute alert actions only in main account if you want to take action only in main account.

Instructions on how to use the playground for this use case:

Scenario Generator:

  1. Access our Scenario Generator app from here.

  2. The scenarios simulate real life problems for easyTravel applications which Datadog monitors.

  3. Click on “Select a scenario” button and then pick one of the easyTravel scenarios listed here. After selecting a time period for the scenario, you can start it.

Datadog:

  1. After starting an easyTravel scenario, you can see what is happening in easyTravel apps from the dashboard Datadog provides.

  1. Alerts are created in Datadog during the scenario is running.

  2. Alerts/Incidents are created in OpsGenie whenever an alert is created in Datadog. Associated alerts are consolidated under the incident in OpsGenie.

  3. When alert/incident is acknowledged in OpsGenie, the corresponding Datadog alert is acknowledged.

  4. When an alert is closed in OpsGenie, the corresponding Datadog alert is closed.

Main OpsGenie Account:

  1. You can enter the main account by using your own credentials.

  2. If you go to “Integrations” page, you will see 3 different OpsGenie integrations configured for you. You will see how integrations should be configured according to different use cases if you look at the “For alerts originated from this account” part at the configuration page.

  3. If you run a scenario from scenario generator app, Datadog will create an alert and you will see that a corresponding alert is created in this main account.
